When I purchased all my radiology books from Amazon, they got me the best price on them that the campus book store couldn't even beat, or any where else for that matter. Not only was the price unbeatable but the short time that it took for me to get them was AMAZING!!!! Defiently would tell anyone to buy their books for anything college/school related or really just about anything at Amazon because they really can't be beat when it comes to brand new books and a very low price, plus the fast shipping.

As a senior radiology resident preparing for my upcoming oral boards, I was excited to see the release of a new GI radiology teaching files book. The current market for GI radiology books for residents is sparse -- with the two most popular being the Mayo and the Case Reviews book.

However, this book is a disappointment to me. The discussion is dry and writtent in a manner that assumes the reader is an expert in GI radiology. The authors did not write this book for the radiology resident. There are few explanation to help the less experienced reader.

For example, on page 40, the authors write, "Barrett's esophagus has varying forms of columnar metaplasia arranged into tufts." What the heck is a "tuft"?

Another example is on page 38. The authors are discussing lichen planus and write "The epidermis is hyperkeratic, forming irregular acanthotic pegs." What the heck is "acanthotic pegs"?

Another example is on page 22. The authors write "A polypoid carcinoma is a finely lobulated timor that superficially mimics a foreign body...a meniscus is not present." What is meant by "menicus"?

I'll stop as you probably get the drift of what I'm saying.

Also the book is hard to read in the differential diagnosis section. The authors list a bunch of differentials in a list, but then the discussion of all these differentials are bunched together into one paragraph and are discussed out of order with respect to the list. Very annoying.

The book does have a saving grace in that the images are superb and well annotated and arrowed. I will use the book to skim the images.

Still, I'm not satisfied with this book. I recommend if you can taking a look in person and reading a few cases before deciding whether to part with your money.

I'm still waiting for a GI radiology book that anticipates the needs of the average radiology resident, especially in such neglected areas as fluoroscopy. I'm looking for a teaching files book that is funny, memorable and actually elucidates and clarifies material instead of a dry tome that uses fancy vocabulary.

It's magnificient for all people involved in cardiology.

I am working as a researcher and a physician, and sometimes teach students. Although this book is not research-oriented, authors intend to incorporate recent products of basic medicines, such as molecular biology, molecular genetics, basic electrophysiology (e.g. ion channels), pharmacology, and so on. If you want to know what has already been proved and clarified about the cardiological disease you are interested in, this book will help you. Certainly any single volume cannot cover all the things in this field, this book will give you the idea on the key point of the diseases. Certainly, this book is also useful for practitioners. The book gives you a lot of results of large clinical studies, and even when you lose your way, you can also start with the basic pathophysiology of the disease.

Wonderful book!

I'm from Brazil. I bought Braunwald's Heart Disease 8th ed in december 2008. Shipping was predicted to arrive in january 20th. Just in time, in the exact day, the book was home. Moreover, it's an elegant, precise, up to dated text, with lots of images and tables, with excellent writing. I, definitely recommend it to every cardiology student or practioner.

A good starting point

I just finished my first year in medical school, and I thought these cards were a good starting point for studying. Often it's hard to motivate yourself to learn all the mundane details required in gross anatomy, and these flash cards were great to carry around on the bus and review during my commute.
However, these cards do not have all the information that is in the Netter's atlas or textbooks like Moore's Clinically Oriented Anatomy. These cards only review some bony landmarks, muscles, nerves, etc., but not all of them! So if you know these flash cards, don't fool yourself into thinking you know everything for your exam!

These flash cards are great. They are in full color (not all anatomy flash cards are created alike!) and include basic information about the body (ie the origin and insertion of muscles along with their importance). Remember, flash cards are meant for review, not for primary studying. You can turn these cards into a full study tool simply by adding information from Moore or any other anatomy text. We all want to cut corners, but using these cards alone won't do it (but they'll get you pretty close). I couldn't live without them. Couple them with Moore's Essential Anatomy and you have the perfect cocktail for success in Gross.

Doesn't prep you for the Hesi

Overall, this books only OK. I recently took a HESI exam and much of the content was not even covered in the book. Several diseases that the pediatric HESI tested for were completely left out of the book--quite disappointing considering that I actually knew the book's content very well. Also, the book has spelling errors and contradicts itself (e.g., lab values) from one page to the next. Instead, I recommend NSNA's NCLEX review by Alice M. Stein.

hesi----a must have for nursing nclex

this book is a must have for the nursing student. although there is a new one being released in Dec. '07, it is worth the money spent if it helps to pass the first semester of nursing. there are not many questions in the book itself, however the tips and hints alone make it worthwhile. the companion cd is where the nursing student will find questions comparable to the nclex. i will also be purchasing the newer edition when it becomes available.
