Of course the authors' reputation is a good enough reason to want it but the impressive list of contributors can only reinforce my first impression: there is a lot of work and good science in its 996 pages. In fact, serious general practitioners and specialists alike will find all they need to know about the GI tract...The excellent authors finally put to bed myths such as 'nil per mouth' in the case of acute pancreatitis. Almost half of the book is taken up by the diseases of each organ which are thoroughly dealt with and of course there is an impressive list of reference. Got the message? This is a must!

I am impressed about the condition of the book when I received it. The book was handled and shipped in a professional manner. Also, it was very fast shipping. I used the Amazon card to help me pay for this book. I really highly recommend using this service to purchase expensive items like books. However, I wasn't sure why old books were more expensive that new ones. I was hoping to get a used book for a cheaper price, but that did not happen. Anyways, it was a good investment.

Hunter's Tropical Medicine and Emerging Infectious Disease is a comprehensive, well-written resource. The book includes chapters based on organs, skills, services and topics, in addition to the traditional pathogen-based materials. Travelers' health and emerging infectious diseases are discussed. Many charts and illustrations are included.

Some illustrations are full color while others are black and white. There is also a link to an online version.

I highly recommend this.

A grey review for a grey book.

I was a bit disappointed with this text. I expected the book to be in full colour not just a boring gray/blue and white with black and white pictures. The content is GREAT as expected but I'm returning it and will just use the Oxford Handbook of Tropical Disease and CDC online/Uptodate. For the price and weight it's just not worth it.

I feel this ed. is a step down from the amazing 8th ed.

This book is one of the best text books I have worked with in a while. I am currently working in Africa, instructing infectious disease classes, and this book was perfect. It is a book that has a lot more statistics applicable to the area I am working, reducing the amount of time I need researching other sources.

A book to read

I like the book. I bought it because I did not have the older edition. The new edition contains the same knowledge that the older edition had - plus some new sections. However, it is still a thin book and easy to read. The illustrations are much more better including more CTs and MRIs. The images of X-rays has still not been improved and in medium quality. It is a classic and if you dont have the older edition, you should definitely buy it; if you already have the older version, you should wait until its price drops more.

I just started my first year of radiology residency (hooray for not being an intern anymore!), and my first rotation is pediatrics. This book was strongly recommended to me by more senior residents in my program. I have not been disappointed. The book is fairly small (about 250 pages), which makes finishing it during the course of a one month rotation a completely doable task. When we do teaching cases with the attending every morning, I feel like I can contribute meaningful differential diagnoses based on what I've read in this book the night before, even as an inexperienced R1. This book is a must-have for radiology residents!

If you are a resident in radiology or pediatrics this is the #1 book you should read. It is a short read, the text is down to the point written in an easy to digest style, with lots of pertinent images. I would not open any other peds rad book without reading and knowing this one first from cover to cover. It has been my best friend on ped rad rotations and board prep. Dr Donnelly has a very down to earth style, this will be your favorite basic peds book.

Excellent But !

there are many great reviews here about this book, i totally agree with all what have been said, its a must if ur a surgeon , not recommended at all for undergraduates (greenfield is my number 1 for undergraduates as a reference textbook ), the book provides the real experience and the guidelines together (which a rigorous book like Schwartz lacks) , however my take on the book, is there is no coverage for organ transplant which is getting more and more popular every day, and ur chances of seeing a patient who had an organ transplant either for a problem related to his organ or a secondary problem are much higher, the vascular chapter is a bit confusing but overall a valuable book that bridges the gap between the knowledge and the experience

Slightly disappointing

A must-read to prepare for oral exams, or to quickly review concepts of patient management. The new edition has some significant updates in laparoscopy and trauma care, but has lapsed somewhat in quality. Doesn't replace a good surgical reference like Schwartz, Sabiston, or Greenfield.

I'm disappointed by many errors in this edition. Some chapters have some small errors missed by the editing team. Some chapters are also based on the opinions of individual authors, and may not necessarily reflect the current standard of care. It would have been nice to see some more evidence-based material added. For example, the chapter on laparoscopic CBDE may be applicable to large academic centres, but I don't think it reflects most surgical centres in the world. I would have liked to see a bit more on open CBDE.

Many illustrations are also illegible. This is unacceptable for a reference-level publication. It reflects poorly on the credibility of the publisher and makes me question the rest of the book.

Overall a disappointment. A previous edition supplemented with a quick internet search might offer better information.

Save your money. Skip this poorly illustrated edition.

Having just read Cameron's 8th edition cover to cover, I was disappointed to find that its follow-up was a downgrade. The paper quality is poorer. Despite the addition of a "Color Section", many of the photos are extremely fuzzy, as if they were taken with one of the first digital cameras ever made. Some of the illustrations are so dark that they appear as just a black splotch on the page (see the ultrasound and CT images of liver cysts). Others are too light (see the image of an Laryngeal Mask Airway). I thought that maybe my copy had just been printed poorly, but the corresponding images online are just as shoddy. I have not read through enough of this edition to be able to compare the text, but surgical residents should heed Dr. Cameron's caveat that the treatments described in this book reflect the individual practices of doctors who have been recognized as experts in their respective fields. I can only hope that the tenth edition, scheduled to arrive in 2011, will be an improvement upon its predecessor, especially in the graphics department.

A Very Strong Resource Book on Cosmetic Surgery

David J. Goldberg, MD JD has compiled an excellent quality book for physicians both new to the field of Cosmetic Surgery and for those who have been in the field for some time. This Volume 1 deals with vascular lesions, leg veins, pigmented lesions and tattoos, laser treatment for scars, treatment of actinic keratoses, acne, psoriasis, photodynamic therapy (cosmetic), and laser hair removal. His writing style is comprehensive yet accessible to the reader. Every topic is accompanied by clear photographs of the lesions and their treatments. As an added benefit, there is a DVD edited by Thomas Rohrer, MD that covers a number of the topics in the written pages of this book. The book is Volume 1 in the series LASERS AND LIGHTS and is the second addition - an improvement in every way over the first addition.

All medical books are priced high: the amount of work and photography a book like this demands such a price. What makes Goldberg's book a step above the others is his willingness to share a large number of articles in a reference page at the end of each chapter - always a sign that the writer cars about the dissemination of correct information.
