Best of the Case Review series

This is definitely the best one out of the series. The pictures are excellent, often including labels to help the beginning resident get a grasp of viewing U/S anatomy. Each case is succintly presented with an excellent disccusion. The case selection is also fantastic, as it covers the important topics with the exclusion of OB/GYN (covered in it's own seperate series). All the info in this book is material residents should be expected to know.

AACN Procedure Manual for Critical Care

This newest edition of critical care policies updates the old version, adding chlorhexidine as the prep for procedures simplifying some procedures with icons. The new procedures that have been added, Noninvasive Ventilation, Fecal Management Systems, as well as several others have made this resource even more valuable. As always, when I update procedures or write new ones this is my primary source. Even my Med-Surg associates have found this manual helpful! I would reccomend this to everyone.

Why not a digital version?

I haven't personally purchased this book although I do use the institutional copy. Why isn't there a digital version. Books are so heavy an cumbersom. This is a reference book that should be available when needed which means portability.
I find the Procedure Manual very useful in prep, technique and teaching newer clinicians and a great reference for those of who have been in critical care. I'd highly recommend that at least there be an institutional copy and hopefully the publisher will see the wisdom to have a Kindle or other digital version.

Needs photos and/or illustrations

This is not a book for the visual learner. While the text is informative, it is noticeably lacking in visuals. Many RNs learn by visual so this book is not helpful. I was looking for something to supplement procedural information for a neuro critical care course I am teaching but I would have been better off sticking to journal articles. The photos and illustrations they do have are all black and white, too small, and of poor quality.

Evidence based exam and intervention

This book was really helpful to me in PT school when studying spine. He uses recent (at least as recent as possible given publication date) research to teach the best practices for exam and intervention, then goes through each exam and intervention technique in detail. The book comes with a CD which I found helpful to review technique. I continue to go back to this at work. Note to students: because this is evidence based, if there is a new edition I would strongly recommend spending the extra money on it since the research is constantly being updated and improved upon.

Very Helpful

This book is a great tool to assist you with manual therapy of the c-spine, t-spine and TMJ. The pictures are helpful, the instructions are clear and fairly concise. The DVD is invaluable. It's hard to remember high grade manipulations that you don't use regularly- the DVD will fully demo most of them (but not all of them) for you. I'd definitely recommend this book.

Great resource!

I am a physical therapist with little experience in orthopedics as my specialty is geriatrics. This book has helped me a lot in learning mobilization of the spine. The text is easy to understand. My only caveat, hence the 4 stars, is the DVD. Not all techniques in the book are in the DVD so it is a little difficult to mentally picture some mobilization techniques.

Kindle iPad Version Near-Useless

I own the paper and kindle version, and use it on an iPad, Kindle Fire and Galaxy S3. In the kindle version, each "page" is actually a single scanned picture. This means you cannot highlight / annotate the text. It is also very slow to load. On the iPad, there is some technical error where the software will get into "load screen" loops; extremely annoying when trying to use the text as a reference. On the Kindle Fire and S3, the book is much slower to use than other books due to the size and use of images instead of text. You also cannot search the text.

Content is still great but the Kindle version is subpar.

Excellent Reference

Purchased as a personal reference, and as a visual aid in explaining things to patients who have questions about their problems. Just received the book early this morning, and began going through it. This book is excellent. I really like the fact that this is about orthopedics and only orthopedics. Previously I had used a set of the Netter flash cards for this purpose, but a colleague showed me this, and it was much better for our purposes. Unlike the flash cards, this is a handy "all in one" reference, and it is not cluttered up with information unrelated to my area of practice. Also, I can drop it in the pocket of my lab coat if I want to take it along. No cards to fumble through or misplace. If you are working in orthopedics, or planning to do so, I would recommend this book without reservation.
