Excellent reviews of critical care topics

This is probably one of the best critical care medicine books published in recent years. It is a great summary of the latest literature on critical care medicine. One of the attractive features of this book is that each topic is based a specific clinical question. Each question is well formulated and represents bedside questions often asked by practicing intensivist during his/her daily ward rounds; hence these questions are highly relevant and have immediate clinical importance. Each chapter addresses this specific question by critically reviewing the available literature and summarizing the evidence. The summary is quite well written and easy to follow. Importantly, it is not excessively long (most are 2-3 pages), so you can get a quick overview of the latest evidence in less than 30 minutes. The whole book covers a large number of such questions and capture most topics in the critical care medicine. Most of the information in this book cannot be found in major critical care textbooks, which tend to be outdated and not in keeping with the current literature. If you are studying for board exam, use this book as an introduction text because it gives you the main "juice" of the topic straight away. You can then fill in the "gaps" by reading up more details on some of those big volume critical care textbooks. For practising clinicians, this book gives you almost 100 "Journal Club" critiques in one book. That is pretty good value for money!

Best book in critical care medicine

This book is one of the best I have ever read, it goes throught the evidence (until 2010, now things are changed again, for example a new study has shown that beta 2 agonists i.v. do not improve outcome in ARDS and so on..), but as far as getting a good, detailed, evidence based review of all that one must know as an intensivist this book is fantastic!

good book for anyone rotating/practicising in critical care

I had read this book when I was a resident and it immediately caught my attention. Now as a hospitalist who has to manage ICU I find this book very helpful. This is simple and easy to read. I have also read the ICU book by Marino. Later I preferred to buy this book as it is more problem oriented, it is formatted in the question answer form so reading, and the chapters are short enough that you don't get bored.
If you are deciding between The ICU Book by Marino and this one, it is really difficult to compare these two. ICU book has been around a while but I find the chapters long and boring. If your attention span is short like mine or don't have much time to read big chapters then this book is for you. All materials are uptodate.

Review of the textbook: Clinical Parasitology: A Practical Approach by Zeibig

I have taught medical parasitology on the college level for over ten years. I have used several different textbooks in my courses, including this textbook. I must say that this is the most user friendly textbook on parasitology that I have used or reviewed. I have read this book from cover to cover and before I took a national certification test to become a Specialist in Medical Microbiology I read it again. The illustrations are outstanding and the format of the book makes it fun to read. Of all the books that I have used in any of the courses I teach in clinical laboratory science I think this is the ultimate text for a beginning medical technology or medical student. The price is very reasonable for this book. The book is concise and the author has included only the most pertinent information for parasite identification and parasitic pathology.

The new edition of Canine and Feline Cytology has many great new features. While some of the pictures are the same, the text has been expanded, histopathology pictures are now included alongside cytology pictures, and expanded sections in the Advanced Diagnostic Techniques on EM, special stains, flow cytometry, etc.. make this book a great investment. As a resident in Vet Clin Path, this will be a valuable book for board preparation. As a former small animal private practioner this book would be all that is needed (plus some) for practice and is easy to use!

I purchased this book specially for all the great up-to-date information from previous editions, and what a pay off! The chapter on Fecal Cytology is a must read for anyone practicing internal medicine! It truly will help you understand specifics much better. The chapters on cancers and treatments and advanced diagnostics is superior. Overall, this is a great work.

Superb otology reference book

As a practicing otolaryngologist for over 15 yrs, I think this book would be a vital addition to any ENT surgeon's library. In order to access the on line video library you must contact Elsevier. Once purchased, registering on-line (as the book instructs) is not sufficient. Elsevier had to finalize the registration process. It is 100% worth it, as the video library has a wealth of info guaranteed to improve your ear practice. Thks Dr. Brackmann, et al, for this vital medical textbook!!!

This is a classic of Ear Surgery. It is a comprehensive book recommended for residents-specialists. It comes with a very useful service consisting in an online account at Expertconsul.
