Great book for all clinicians!

Anatomy and Pathology: The Worlds Best Anatomical Charts - 4th Edition
This is a second edition of a popular book on surgical pathology by the authors. Once, I started reading it, I found myself engrossed completely by its contents. This book can be best described as a concise outline of various site specific anatomic pathology of various disorders. As a non-pathologist, for me, the book contains a wealth of information in a systematic and predictable manner. The short and understandable description and clear and colored photographs make the book easy to read and comprehend. The list of references is short, appropriate and recent. My favorite chapters are on Skin, Male reproductive organs and breast.

Although, the book, I understand, is meant for medical students and residents, it should, in my opinion, be on the shelf of every physician in active practice of medicine. The print size and the format of the book are easy to read, understand and follow. However, at eight pounds of weight, it is heavy to hold on ones lap, less so to carry. My laptop computer is lighter than this book. I hope that the authors will consider digitalizing the content of the book and save it on a CD so that one can carry the book in his briefcase.

BEWARE OF DEFECTIVE BINDING ON THIS PRODUCT. CONTENT IS GOOD THOUGH.

The binding on the spine of this book is faulty. I purchased this book earlier in the year and returned it; the cover along the spine had detached from the underlying binding. Whenever you open the book, it made crinkly noises and didn't feel right. I subsequently re-purchased this book months later and the second book had the same problem. I spoke to multiple residents in my program and they all had the same problem with this book. This is not an isolated event, but a problem with the manufacture of this particular book. I plan to glue the spine back together myself or take it to a bookbinding company. This defect is serious -- it detracts from the lifespan and value of this expensive book! Who wants to spend $160 for a book to have it fall apart and require glue or duct tape? Ridiculous! This is very unfortunate too, because the content of the book is very good. To the manufacturer and Amazon -- do something here!!

It's my go to book for a quick differential

The second edition is even better than the first. The color pictures are great! It's a very practical and easy to use book. I'm currently a second year pathology resident and I use this book every time I preview my slides. It's easy to look up a diagnosis and know what should be in the differential. Also, everything is in bullet format which is great for reviewing the key points of a diagnosis. The book covers all areas of anatomic pathology. It's really a must have for me and I know I will continue to use it throughout my career.

Beautiful Book for a Great Price

This book is beautifully illustrated and certainly serves as a great atlas. It is organized by body system with a brief section on the normal physiology of that system and then entries for various conditions of that system. The index references page numbers, but the there are tables of contents for each color-coded system section organized by chapter number boldly displayed in the upper corners of the page. Thus, it is quite easy to find a lot of helpful information.

I will quibble a bit with the choice of what to exclude. There is not a word about seizure disorders. At first I thought that might be because the author chose to include conditions for which there can be lots of photos, imaging studies and drawings. But the chapter on neurodiagnostic tests does show a couple of EEC tracings and mentions EEG's utility in diagnosing conditions other than seizures. Then there's a chapter on diabetes insipidus that just has a diagram, so the graphics theory goes. Thus, I find it inexplicable that there's nothing about seizures.

Still, an interesting and useful reference, perhaps as a companion to Ferri's Clinical Adviser (or to my preference, The 5-Minute Clinical Consult).

A unique and useful approach to learning medicine

This reference is always open in my house when I'm studying. I flip back and forth between uptodate and this, or Cecil's and this, or "insert other nerdy medical text" and this. The descriptions of presentation of illness along with the variety of clinical images really solidify disease concepts and differentials into my mind. The chapters are brief yet thorough and laid out in bullet point form.

For instance I was able to SEE all the presentations of "multiple lung nodules/masses," each disease/syndrome/etc presented with unique identifiers for nailing the right ailment. It took about 30 minutes to do. EASY. Thats what I need.

After flipping through black, white, and gray text this book loaded with pictures, graphs, flow charts, and all other sorts of useful images deserves a place in any serious student's library. I don't know if this book will make me a better physician but it sure makes learning all this stuff much easier and far more entertaining.

Stuff you already know..."

This was required reading for a nursing class. I diligently plugged through the Chapters but there was not a lot of "valuable" new information. It provides some history of nursing and related figures but most of the guidelines are common sense. Unless you have to buy it, save your $$$; however, I will say the authors of this book have put out some GREAT mnemonic flash cards for a variety of nursing topics (meds esp) which I LOVE and use regularly so def. check those out!

Nursing Today: Transition & Trends

This book is required reading. So far, I'm disappointed. The author's time management suggestions rely heavily on delegation, the pitfall of all other time management seminars I've attended. While some of them have merit, it author doesn't take into account that money is an issue when it comes to hiring out tasks, or that dry cleaning or grocery delivery isn't an option in rural areas, even if money weren't an object. However, I'm only a few chapters in. Perhaps it will get better.

Leibel and Philips has consistently been favored by radiation oncology residents as their textbook of choice for many reasons. That is not the goal of this review, however. I bought the kindle version of the textbook. I was absolutely shocked that the kindle version lacked countless figures and tables that are essential to the text. Instead of seeing the figures and tables in their proper place, this kindle book displays a copyright notice that this version of the book couldn't (or didn't???) obtain the rights to include the figure or table.

How Amazon even lists this kindle book as a buying option is absolutely beyond me. How is anyone supposed to learn from such an advanced level specialty text with countless missing figures and tables? There doesn't seem to be any notice on this fact either on the webpage either.

I believe I deserve to get my money back. But Amazon thinks this book is fine as it is. Unless you can mentally conjure up the missing figures and tables, save yourself $180 down the drain and buy the physical copy please.

So I was disappointed to find that the inkling version of this book ...

These days, I would never buy a book this size without access to an e-version. There's no way I'm going to be lugging this book everywhere during a residency program. So I was disappointed to find that the inkling version of this book is missing countless tables, pages etc. even pages as vital as staging of several cancers. I find this infuriating and it renders it quite useless to me. Had I known about this I certainly wouldn't have purchased it. If I were to give any advice, I'd say stick to Perez and Brady's. In terms of the information it contains, I can't speak to that as I've stopped using this book. It's now just library decor.
